I cannot tell you how EXCITED I am to have a front porch to decorate for the holidays! It’s our first Halloween at the townhouse and whether we end up getting trick or treaters or not, the decorations were going up! This is the first time EVER in my adult life that I’ve actually had a front porch of my own and not just an apartment door so I definitely had a lot of fun with it!

Our front porch isn’t super big so we decided to also take advantage of our Juliette balcony for some decor! We added a skeleton we had, as well as some spider webs and lights. Since he gets s little windy up there too we also tied the skeleton to the balcony with some twine.

My other favorite part of our decor are these bats! How fun right?!

Next up is the front porch! Of course we all know the real stars of the season are pumpkins! We picked up a bunch of varieties at Trader Joes this year. I also brought out a wood crate we had to add a little height and give us more space to stack pumpkins. Add in some corn cobs and some lights and the front porch was ready to go!

Another fun decor element is our wreath. I actually got this years ago when I was living in NYC and thought I was splurging (it was a whole $30 😂). What I love about it is since it’s black and silver I can change the decorations to match the holiday. In NYC this was more a matter of space, but even still I like having the option. So for Halloween, I add a spider and some Halloween ornaments. For Christmas, I swap out the ornaments, add some ribbon and a hanging snowflake. Then for Valentine’s Day, I add some cute heart lights. It’s nice to have something that is versatile!

To finish off our decorations, we added spider webs to our bushes with plastic spiders sprinkled throughout them. Then a few faux tombstones in our flower beds!

One of my favorite things of being a homeowner is having the space to take on BIGGER DIY projects. It’s amazing how much more you can do when you have an actual outdoor space and a garage… say WHAT!

When I moved back to Washington 3 years ago, I was starting over on the furniture front and was trying to keep things on a budget after a big and expensive move too. Queue Pinterest and another one of my favorite things, Facebook Buy Sell Groups and Marketplace! Which feels a smidge safer than Craigslist? I’m sure there are creepers there too but this post isn’t about that! It’s about…. how I snagged a bed frame for $25 and did some DIY furniture magic on it!

Let me back up a few though, this all started because I really loved the look of industrial style bed frames. When I was looking to buy one though the prices started at $300 and went all the way over $1k! Ones similar to these…

Of course, I didn’t want to spend that though… so I spent some time on Pinterest and found some tutorials of people who had spray painted brass bed frames to get the same look. Ding, ding, ding I could totally do that! So I started looking on Facebook Marketplace and I quickly found this beauty for a whopping $25! Which looked like a lot of my friend’s bed frames growing up! Of course there’s nothing wrong with this look if that’s your thing, but for me it was a stepping stone to getting that industrial vibes I was after.

To get the look I wanted, I opted for a flat black spray paint from Krylon. I usually go with the all-in-one spray paints so that I can skip the separate primer coat, which saves some time. If you go with a traditional spray paint can, I also highly recommend getting one of the comfort nozzle too. SO worth the extra little money to save your fingers. Plus you can reuse them for future projects.

Two coats on each side later they turned out like this! Which, in case you’re wondering was 4 cans of spray paint. I wanted to make sure it was covered well.

I’d say I achieved the look I was going for! What do you think? The best part too? I didn’t spend hundreds of dollars… in fact the whole project came in right under $40! Of course, your price will vary a little depending on if you have a bed frame around the house or buy one. Either way, though it’s an inexpensive project that can totally change the look of your bedroom!

Today’s nudge of encouragement? Go and do the things that scare you! I'm talking about the things that you are letting fear hold you back from because you don't think you're qualified enough, you don't think you know enough about it or you're worried about what other people will think. Yes, those things!

#RealTalk when we first decided to dive right in and launch online workshops and our Social Media Business Bootcamp at Bold & Pop I was terrified. Not because I didn't think we had value to share, I KNEW we had that part under wraps... but live video... AH! What if I tripped up over my words... or what if there were glitches.. or what if I totally just spazzed out and forgot everything I needed to say. Yeah, maybe that's all a little dramatic for some online Zoom sessions but those were real fears of mine.

You know what though?! 2 bootcamps and 2 workshops later... my business partner and I had a wrap call today and I was so excited to talk about doing even MORE of these online trainings and making it a bigger part of our business not just during COVID but beyond. Say whattt?! Who would have thought a few months ago! Definitely not me.

Here's the thing though, every time you try something that is new or that scares you, you're opening the door to finding out something you actually like! And worst case? You find out it isn’t your thing and you can file that experience away and move right along. So get out there and start that podcast… start that blog… launch that product or service… and try and push your limits a little. No, you won’t be an expert right off the bat and maybe some of your fears will come true… but they might not be as big of a deal as you thought either. So get out there and do the dang thing anyways!
