When we decided to plan a full blown wedding there were a few things on my “must-haves list” and one of them was creating a logo for our wedding becauseeee…. branding and web designer here 🙋‍♀️. You know I couldn’t resist. We have a few different uses for it, but the first one was creating custom-painted jeans jackets for our engagement photos.

For our wedding, we’re using the hashtag #TheHicksGetHitched but outside of that, we created an Instagram account to share our outdoor adventures with the name @TheHicksintheSticks. Evan’s last name is Hicks, and we’re both originally from Enumclaw which is out in the sticks so alas the name was born. Since our wedding is only one day, I decided to do two logos one with The Hicks Get Hitched which will actually be on some of our wedding stuff and then one for The Hicks in the Sticks which we could use beyond our wedding. Which is the one we used for our jackets. Did you follow all that? Ha!

Picking out our Jackets

You could use jackets you already have or buy new ones like we did. We got ours at Old Navy and Target! Here’s a link to the one I got and the one Evan got. I also included some other options below!

The DIY Goods

Here are some of the goods I used for the project:

  • Fabric paint — here is the one I got

  • Glitter paint — this is the color I used

  • Stencil — I used my Cricut to create my stencil although I would NOT recommend using standard stencil material… If you’re going to use a Cricut, try using their stencil material. My Cricut couldn’t cut through the plastic material of the ones I bought at Hobby Lobby (even on the thickest setting) Which was a big ol’ pain in the booty and waste of time.

  • Sponge brushes — these worked great!

  • Sequin fringe to add a little something extra — I got mine at Hobby Lobby and just measured the arms and got a little extra on each side. This one is similar to what I used.

  • Cricut, or something to cut out your stencil with

You could also use the iron on material for Cricuts for this project too, I just preferred the painted look.

The Process

  1. Create design you want to use (I created a custom design)

  2. Create and cut out the stencil

  3. Line up stencil and tape in place. you can also use stencil adhesive depending on the material you’re using

  4. Use sponge brushes to paint on the jacket. I did 2-3 coats with about 5-10 minutes in between each coat

  5. Remove stencil! Because I used removable vinyl, I removed ours when they were still a little wet to prevent bleeding

  6. Make any finishing touches you’d like! I added glitter paint to the arms of mine and sewed sequin fringe on the sleeves.

The Final Product!

Here’s a look at how ours turned out!

I think we can all agree that the holidays feel a little funky this year! Normally I’m not even a huge decorator for Christmas but this year I decided to get a little extra… like we mayyy have put up 5 Christmas trees 🎄Some of them were mini ones, but still! Listen, Christmas 2020 anything goes!

This was our first Christmas without Scootie, but he was definitely not forgotten. I swear half of my personal ornaments are of Scoots or weenie dogs. Which was kind of sad but happy at the same time. He loved Christmas so much and digging around the gifts under the tree so it was nice to have reminders of him.

It was also Benji’s first Christmas with us so you we had to do it up! Included a little reindeer outfit for him! I couldn’t resist.

This is where the bonus Christmas trees come into play! By Dad told me had a Christmas tree of mine in the attic and asked if I wanted it… and again, 2020 so I said yes! So we put one up in our bedroom and then I also was gifted another pink Christmas tree that I couldn’t say no to!

My office was the pink Christmas tree hub and I loved every minute of it! 2020 may have been a bummer but our decorations definitely added a spark to our home! Now I just wish we could keep them up even longer!

Halloween this year may have been different, but it’s our favorite holiday so we weren’t going to let it stop us from dressing up! In case you missed it, I also did a post on our house decor too so you know we’re serious about Halloween over here.

Feather Shawl: Amazon | Black Gloves: Similar | Mask: Spirit Halloween | Dog Shark Costume: Similar

This year I kept things pretty simple and dressed up as a crow. The first reason being… 2020, and crows are notoriously creepy and the second… because our house is in the flight path of crows and every night we have hundreds fly over. Back to that creepy factor! I have to say that totally freaked me out when we first moved before I realized it happened pretty much every night. Usually I’m a big DIYer when it comes to Halloween but this year I just bought a few items to complete my costume to keep it easy.

Evan on the other hand, went a little further than I did. He also LOVES Halloween and always dresses up for work too. This year he dressed up as Powerline from The Goofy Movie! For his, he bought this ridiculous bodysuit and then we created an iron-on logo with my Cricut.

Then for Benji’s first Halloween, he dressed up as a Baby Benj Shark! I can’t say he loved taking pics for me but he didn’t mind the costume too much!

Then I saved the cutest for last… Little Squish as a little skeleton! It was also his first Halloween and he definitely won the cuteness award!
