Off to Brooklyn I Go

The longer I live here, the more people I know that are moving across the river to Brooklyn. Most of them head there for better deals on rent, in search of more space, or for an escape from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.

I’m a little torn on the subject because when I moved here I have always said if I was going to live in New York I couldn’t imagine living anywhere other than Manhattan. Which, is still true. It is a tough argument to go up against when you see the size of my friend’s apartments in Brooklyn though.. Some are double the size of ours for $4-600 less. It also gives off more of a community feel than other places in the city.

Over the last two weekends, I’ve ventured to Williamsburg twice to visit a couple of my friends so I’ve started to get a better feel for the area. The area is a very easy commute from downtown Manhattan so it doesn’t feel to far from the city, but far enough to have a different feel.

One thing I really love about the area is the views! The one cool thing about being outside of Manhattan is a lot of the places have GORGEOUS views of the city. The picture below is from my friend’s roof. Pictures really can’t do it justice.. but if I could wake up to that view every day you can bet I wouldn’t mind living there!

Feeling a Little Grey

My room is officially finished! My spur of the moment decision ending up taking a little bit more than the 24 hours I was expecting. It turns out, it’s not that easy to paint over yellow stripes on the wall! Even with primer, I had t o put quite a few layers of grey paint to even it out. Here is how it turned out though!

I kept my accent wall pink to maintain some color in the room. Here’s a look at my new bedding and curtains to frame my bed. West Elm was really responsible for this makeover… if it weren’t for their bedding sale I probably would have kept things the same for awhile, but I couldn’t resist plus I needed a new duvet. I ended up actually going with a different one than I originally planned, but I really loved it!

To cap off the look I picked up some new canvases at Michaels and got my paint on!

I can’t do anything complicated, but I love just playing around with some color and patterns on fresh canvas. So there you have it! My new and improved look for my room!

Room Makeover :: Round 2

When your main living space is 8x10, it’s easy to get bored of your decor. Currently my bedroom is a ball of color with yellow and white striped walls with a pink accent wall. While I love the stripes, I think I’m ready for something a little different for the next year. [Insert a trip to West Elm, Home Goods, Michaels, and TJ Maxx here] All I have left to gather is the paint store. Stay tuned for my room’s new look by the end of the day! See, there is a perk to living in a small space, it’s not too hard to completely change the look, painting including, in less than 24 hours!
