Life Lately :: We're Engaged!
Anna Osgoodby Life + Biz :: Life Lately :: We're Engaged! Our Engagement Story at Loon Lake

When we headed to Evan’s family’s cabin for the weekend I definitely did NOT think I’d be coming home with a ring on my finger! 💍Like really, not on my radar! It turns out that I was the last in on the surprise though and most of both of our families were in on it. He had even talked to my Dad almost 3 months ago so it has been in the works for a few unbeknownst to me.

Obviously COVID has canceled pretty much all of our summer plans, but something we were both looking forward to was our annual trip to his family’s cabin. The cabin has been the center of so many family memories for Evan and his family from his childhood all the way through being an adult. And since we started dating, those trips have also been where we’ve made many lasting memories too. Loon Lake is such a special place in general and now we can add another big reason to that!

Evan’s grandparents live on the other side of the lake full-time and each year we come by to pick up the kayaks from storage and paddle them across to the cabin. So this year, after floating a lot of the day we hopped in the truck and headed over with his sister and brother to do just that — nothing out of the usual! Or so I thought…

I was paddling along, cruising out in the front of the group for a while, before Evan told me to come over to where he was so that we’d have a straight shot to the cabin from there. So I headed over to where he was and his sister said we should get a pic. It wasn’t until then… when I was like… why are we taking in pic in the middle of the lake?? Then I had this fleeting thought of, ummmm he isn’t going to propose is he?!

Well, my brief suspicions were confirmed. Because a few seconds later he pulled out a ring box and told me that he first told me he loved me on the lake and that he was going to love me forever and asked me to marry him. Which was pretty sweet since the first time he told me he loved me was our first summer together when we were kayaking. Such a thoughtful mush, I know. Luckily he got right down to the point too because it didn’t take much before I started getting sunscreen in my eyes. Yes, it was definitely just the sunscreen causing those tears! 😂

His sister was filming the whole thing too, but luckily you can mostly just hear the water. Which I’m thankful for because at that point I was dropping some F-bombs and yelling at him to keep the ring in the box! I think this pic is the exact time where I was saying keep that in the box, haven’t you seen those Youtube videos of people dropping rings in the water!!! Especially because we’re both so clumsy so that WOULD happen to us. Luckily it didn’t though! Although I did try to give us another shot at that when I leaned in for a kiss and rocked the boats haha. Don’t worry, no engagement rings were lost during this proposal.

Of course I said yes and put the ring on as soon as we made it to shore! If you guys know me, you know I’m 1.) not really a mush… Evan is def the more romantic of the two of us and 2.) I’m not a big fan of surprises buttt I’ll let this surprise slide because it was a pretty good one!

I have to give him mad props on the ring too! He went through some of the accounts I follow on Instagram and consulted with one of my besties to find out the shape of stone I liked. Then he had a ring custom-designed with my favorite company that I follow, Point No Point Studio! He secretly borrowed one of my other rings to get the sizing right too. The stone is morganite, which is something I had mentioned I liked before and the setting is a diamond eternity band set in rose gold. Like guys, this ring couldn’t be more “Anna” if I had designed it myself! I love that it’s really unique too — that was always something I wanted. Plussss my favorite part is the wedding bands contour around the engagement rings which is something I just love. AND, yes there are a few more ands, the company is also based in Washington, is woman-owned and their diamonds are ethically sourced. So even more reasons to love it.

So that is our engagement story! We’ll see where wedding planning takes us… I’m team eloping in the mountains or having a backyard wedding and Evan is more on team traditional wedding, because again, mush! We shall see though! We have plenty of time to figure it out with the whole world on pause right now! Until then I’m just going to enjoy this chapter and the sparkly new addition to my finger!

Travel Guide for a Weekend at the Gorge in George -- Yes, There's More to do Than just go to Concerts

When you think of the Gorge in Washington, the first thing that pops into your mind is probably the concert venue. Which, hands down is the most beautiful concert venue I’ve been to. There’s more to do than just that though so I wanted to highlight a few cool things in the area. Whether you’re headed there for the weekend for a concert (post pandemic of course), camping or just driving through here are a few of my recommendations.

Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility

Every time I drive to eastern Washington I totally geek out over the windmills (turbines if we’re getting real specific). I don’t know why, but I just think they are so cool and have always been overly excited about them. Green energy is pretty awesome too! Well, get this, you can actually go to their facility and see them up close and guys they are HUGE! Like you know they’re big, but they’re even bigger in person. The facility is about a half an hour drive from the gorge and is definitely worth the trip. They have an info center that has a ton of information on turbines and then also offer daily tours. Even if you don’t check out the info center though just driving through the area is SO cool!

Frenchman Coulee

A lot of people come here to camp, rock climb or hike, but it’s also just a cool place to drive through and even stop to eat lunch. It’s right near the river and the rock formations are so cool to look at! Washington state’s change in terrain is so cool to me and this is a great place to enjoy it.

Cave B Estate Winery

If you’re staying in the area and you’re looking to do something a little classy visit Cave B Estate Winery! Central and eastern Washington are wine country and if you’re going to drink, you might as well make it local! The views from the winery are stunning too so I definitely recommend a visit!

Columbia River Scenic Overlook

If you’re headed back west, or on the way to see the turbines, I highly recommend stopping at the Columbia River Scenic Overlook. It’s right off I-90 at exit 139 and the views are spectacular. I know sometimes stopping right off the road feels so touristy… but SO worth it! If you go in the summer though I’d just recommend stay on the path and look out for snakes! It’s right in the sun and you know they like to get their sun on in the summer. My mom always told us this growing up when we’d go there, and 31 years later it’s still imprinted in my brain so I’m passing it along to you too 😂.

Wild Horse Monument

Another attraction when you’re headed toward the gorge is the Wild Horse Monument. It’s right off the highway where you can get an up close look at the horse sculptures along the hill with the beautiful backdrop of the gorge and the Columbia River.

Crescent Bar

Crescent Bar is another spot that’s become a bit of a party hub but it’s also a great place to just stop in for the day. It’s right on the water and the perfect place to go boating or enjoy the sun while you float in the water.

It’s such a beautiful area so definitely enjoy! Have other recs? Drop them in the comments below!

Why You Should Do the Things That Scare You
Anna Osgoodby Life + Biz :: Why You Should Do the Things That Scare You | Personal Development and Growth Mindset Blog

Today’s nudge of encouragement? Go and do the things that scare you! I'm talking about the things that you are letting fear hold you back from because you don't think you're qualified enough, you don't think you know enough about it or you're worried about what other people will think. Yes, those things!

#RealTalk when we first decided to dive right in and launch online workshops and our Social Media Business Bootcamp at Bold & Pop I was terrified. Not because I didn't think we had value to share, I KNEW we had that part under wraps... but live video... AH! What if I tripped up over my words... or what if there were glitches.. or what if I totally just spazzed out and forgot everything I needed to say. Yeah, maybe that's all a little dramatic for some online Zoom sessions but those were real fears of mine.

You know what though?! 2 bootcamps and 2 workshops later... my business partner and I had a wrap call today and I was so excited to talk about doing even MORE of these online trainings and making it a bigger part of our business not just during COVID but beyond. Say whattt?! Who would have thought a few months ago! Definitely not me.

Here's the thing though, every time you try something that is new or that scares you, you're opening the door to finding out something you actually like! And worst case? You find out it isn’t your thing and you can file that experience away and move right along. So get out there and start that podcast… start that blog… launch that product or service… and try and push your limits a little. No, you won’t be an expert right off the bat and maybe some of your fears will come true… but they might not be as big of a deal as you thought either. So get out there and do the dang thing anyways!
