NYC Freedom B.A.S.E Jump

The Freedom Tower has been in the news quite a lot lately and not for what you might think.

While all of us on the ground continue to watch the building rise, it seems that some people decided that just wasn’t enough and that they wanted to see the building up close and personal. Last week a 16 year old New Jersey kid snuck through a hole in a fence, and somehow made it up to the top of the building. This, followed by a resurface of an incident that happened in September of 4 men who did a BASE jump off the same building. Luckily both incidents don’t seem to have had any malicious intent, but it is definitely a little troubling that it appears to be so easy to bypass security on such a high profile building.

In the meantime, the BASE jumpers posted a video of their jump and I have to say it’s pretty insane. Watch at your own risk ;-)

Bad News Bears

I’ve been avoiding my blog because I got some really bad news and have been hanging out in wallowing land, aka crying on my bed ever since. Alas, it’s been a week and I’m starting to come to terms with the issue at hand so I figured it was about time to jump back on the horse of life.

Let me preface this with some positive things — I didn’t lose a family member or friend, I’m healthy (as far as I know), and so is Scootie-patootie. So that’s the good news! The bad news is that I found out that my landlord is selling my apartment building and they’re turning them into condos and unless I have 1.2 million to buy one of the new condos I have to move. Woh, that’s a lot to handle in one sentence. Obviously I could have gotten worse news, I get that, but I literally LOVE my apartment and finally just got settled in. As we speak I have an apartment post drafted for my blog of some of the new additions I’ve made to my little barbie dream apartment. So finding out that after everything I’m going to have to move, again, feels like the end of the world.

just went through this… I saved all of my money for the last 3 years so I could get my own apartment… Now I’m going to have to do it again?? The brokers… the broker fees… moving trucks… boxes… The whole process just makes me want to cry some more. I mean don’t they know how cute my apartment is?! Don’t they know I picked the perfect happy paint colors, and that my furniture literally fits like puzzle pieces!? I mean, don’t they understand that weenie loves to watch the construction workers out of our window on his chair?! :-P AHHHHHHHH! Clearly not. All they see is $$$ signs in selling and all I see is $$$ signs in moving. I thought I could avoid moving in this city for awhile, but it looks like that dream has been crushed. So yeah, that’s where I’m at. Rumor has it there is a developer buying up the whole block to build a big luxury condo building too so not only will I be moving out but it sounds like they’re going to demo the building. EVEN SADDER!!!

So yeah, that’s where I’m at in life. Apartment to condo conversions are a whole big thing in the city involving buyouts, lawyers, and court dates too so chances are this isn’t going to just be a move out and move on issue. We’ll see though… All I can hope for is the best! I’m going back and forth with some different possibilities, so I’ll be sure to keep you all posted. All I know is change is a-cominggg and hopefully it will be for the best. Insert cheery Anna optimism here :).
