I had such an amazing time at this weekend's Lovely Happenings event! It was truly the ultimate girls' day filled with fun people, fabulous decor and a fun mimosa and bloody mary bar! Seriously, the perfect Saturday!

I was apart of the DIY category for the event where I hosted a donut decorating pumpkin bar! Bringing two of my favorite things together :) I took a fun and bright twist on pumpkin painting by decorating pumpkins with colorful paints, glitter and other fun "sprinkle" options.

A huge thanks to everyone who stopped by my table and had fun painting donut pumpkins with me too! Everyone had their own spins on the DIY project which made it that much more fun.

If you didn't have a chance to stop by my table or for those of you that couldn't make it here's a rundown of how you can create your own donut pumpkins! Because let's be real, everything is better with sprinkles and glitter right!?

The Supplies:

  • Mini pumpkins

  • Acrylic paint

  • Paint brushes

  • Mini pom poms

  • Gem stickers

  • Glitter glue

  • Tacky glue

Get to Painting!

No matter how creative you think you are this DIY is for everyone! There's only 3 steps!

  1. Clean off the pumpkins -- wet wipes work awesome for this

  2. Paint the frosting -- I left a circle around the stem so the pumpkin would look more like a donut. Then paint as much "frosting" as you would like around the top of the pumpkin. Depending on the color you pick you may want to do a few coats.

  3. Pick your "sprinkles" -- You can paint on sprinkles with other paint colors, use glitter glue or glue on mini pom poms or gem stickers!

This DIY project is totally perfect for any upcoming girls night or Halloween get-togethers you have coming up too!

And that's a wrap! A HUGE thank you goes out to the co-founders of Lovely Happenings Rachael and Jaclyn -- who are easily two of my new favorite people -- for inviting me to be apart of the Fall event! <3 :)

Finding Food in NYC :: Jolie’s Sweet Creations
Anna Osgoodby Life + Design :: Finding Food in NYC Jolie's Sweet Creations' Kronies

When I go to a street fair or food festival I try not to have a preconceived notion of what I am going to eat. I like to walk around, survey the scene and if something looks tasty I’ll give it a whirl.

I certainly didn’t foresee that I’d be eating a “Kronie” when I ventured down to Little Italy for the San Gennaro Festival a couple years ago. I’ve been going to the traditional Fall Italian celebration since the 1990s and though it has become increasingly overcrowded with slow walking tourists, there is still plenty of delicious street food to be discovered.

My favorite discovery in recent years has been Jolie’s Sweet Creations. In the middle of the expected vendors selling sausage and peppers heroes, Sicilian rice balls, and canolis I spotted a stand with rows of colorfully frosted doughnuts that seemed to have the flakey crust of a croissant.

French pastry chef Dominique Ansel has received a great deal of attention and accord for his “Cronut” desert, but if you don’t want to brave the 7:00 am lines at his Soho bakery, Jolie’s Sweet Creations version, the “Kronie” is an excellent alternative.

Created by Joe Floriano of Enrico’s Pastry shop and named for his sweet four-year-old daughter Jolie, the “Kronie” has great doughy texture similar to a really well made French Cruller with an exterior that is light and flakey like a croissant.

The “Kronies” are filled with a variety of delicious icings, jellies, and custard fillings.  Every flavor of “Kronie” that I’ve tried has been terrific, but two that really stand out for me are the Raspberry and Salted Caramel.

I’ve been lucky enough to spot a Jolie’s Sweet Creations stand at two different Manhattan street fairs this summer.  If I lived closer to either of the Enrico’s Pastry Shops in the Bronx or Hartsdale I would likely have a serious “Kronie” addiction.

I will definitely be feasting on Jolie’s “Kronies” soon at this year's Feast of San Gennaro, which kicks off today. You can also try one by visiting one of their storefronts or ordering from their website.

Celebrate National Donut Day NYC Style
Anna Osgoodby Life + Design :: Celebrate National Donut Day in NYC -- 3 of the best spots for donuts in the city

Happy National Donut Day! It sounds funny to say that a food has become 'trendy' but judging by my Instagram feed, this is turning into the year of the donut. Which, by the way, I'm totally okay with since I LOVE donuts! I've talked before about my quest to find good donuts in New York and decided today was the perfect day to do a round-up of some of my favorites!

Dun-Well Doughnuts

I LOVE Dun-Well Doughnuts! If you've been reading for awhile you've heard them mentioned a time.. or two ;-) I discovered them at Smorgasburg and they've been at the top of my donut list ever since. Their yeast dough is the perfect texture and makes for the perfect compliment to the awesome flavors they offer like Pink Lemonade, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel and Peach Cobbler. I should also mention they're vegan which makes them a friendly choice for all of my vegan friends :)

Doughnut Plant

Doughnut Plant has some serious flavors going on! Whether you're a big fan of yeast donuts (like me) or are a sucker for cake of filled donuts, they have you covered on all angels . With locations all over the city serving up their donuts too, they make it easy to get your fix!

Dough

The much loved donut shop in Brooklyn recently opened in Manhattan and a lot of people's sweet tooth's are very happy about it! They're known for some really awesome flavors including their Hibiscus, Lemon Poppy and one of my favorites Passion Fruit.

My mouth is watering just talking about these places! As an extra incentive to the already awesome day, I'm also offering you a free printable from my upcoming Oh Sweet Lovely print shop! Click on the photo below to download my "You're the Sprinkles to my Donut" print :) Hope you enjoy the print and get out there and eat some delicious donuts!
