Dear NYC,

We need to have a little chat. I love walking around your concrete jungle. I don’t mind my walk to the subway in the mornings, and I enjoy taking Scooter for walks around your parks. My feet though? Not so much.. I vowed to try and spare them by wearing flats, to find out that my flats brutally attacked them worse than heals probably would. So after buying new shoes and bandaging my feet before heading out the door now I have blisters on the bottom of my feet? You’ve got to take it a little easier on me and catch me a break! Walking out the door with my feet completely bandaged from toe to heal isn’t going to go nicely with my new more established look! I hope you understand.

Sincerely,

Anna

Today’s post is dedicated to food. It’s no secret that I love food. There aren’t many things in the food world I don’t enjoy eating. if you’re really lucky you’ve seen my burger dance or have heard my hashbrown song (Danielle can definitely vouch for me!) Anyways, I love food and New York City has yet to lead me down a road of disappointment for my taste buds.

The first week in the office my boss ordered us an amazing lunch from a cafe nearby and I can honestly say it was the best turkey sandwich I had ever eaten. I’m not even sure what was on it, but it could not been more delectable.

Later in the week, the girls from work and I went out to an incredible Mexican restaurant (I touched on this in an earlier post). Also, as I mentioned before Mexican isn’t even my favorite so for me to say I genuinely loved every bite is a big deal!

Then today, for lunch I was starving and craving Chinese. It’s kind of an old tradition at my old Safeway. I used to take “egg roll breaks.” They’re just so delicious! Especially with sweet and sour sauce. So Chinese was an easy decision. Have to keep tradition even in a new city right?? So I went to our office manager and picked up the menu file folder. Let me start by saying it’s pretty massive! There are probably 50-100 take-out menus of any food you could possibly want to consume within ten minutes of the office. The only decision I had to make was which Chinese restaurant!

I ended up choosing a place called Chef 28 from down the street and ordering one of their lunch specials, which was a bargain at $6.50. To finish off my order I added on one of their home-made iced teas and boy can I tell you that was a great decision! Oh the best part about New York restaurants? They all deliver right to your office or anywhere you are for that matter! Even better? Most of the delivers are free after a minimum purchase price.

I was pleasantly surprised with a cute little bag stuffed with food! Well worth the $10 it ended up costing me, tip included. You can check out my picture to get a glimpse of its deliciousness. Even though the menu item was my usual, Chinese-American food I have had while in New York still has a very different taste of that I’ve had on the west coast. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but it almost tasted more authentic. I haven’t quite figured it out yet, but all I can say is two thumbs up to New York City food!!

So after the rainy evening yesterday I was prepped and ready to go for fall weather today! To my surprise, it ended up being a beautiful day though! Warm, not too humid, and not a rain cloud in sight! I could get used to weather like this! Such a beautiful walk to the subway when it’s sunny out. The only thing that could have made it any better would have been walking to the perfect sunny weather song. Unfortunately, I left my ipod charger cord in Washington though so I have been ipodless.

After work today I had to make an emergency shoe shopping trip. And yes it really was an emergency! I wore a pair of flats today to work that weren’t totally broken in yet thinking it would be a good way to get them worn. Wrong! Instead, my feet were blistered and bleeding by the time I made it to the office. Who knew flats of all things could be so brutal! Moral of the story, the after work trip really was an emergency and necessary to making sure I made it home with my feet still intact. So I ended up buying 2 new pairs of flats and wedge heels that are comfy and will be perfect for my long work pants.

After a little shoe shopping I also HAD to stop by H&M on the way home to pick up a couple items for business-wear. And yes, this trip was a must as well ;-) While I’m waiting for my mom to ship me the other half of my wardrobe I needed to pick up a couple extra items! Sneak peak of my new skirt and shirt from the dressing room above! I’ve never bought anything from H&M before, but they were reasonably priced and it felt like a more grown-up version of Forever 21. I stopped myself at 3 items, but as soon as I have a little more spending money I’m sure I’ll be back a couple of times! I can definitely see how living here could be dangerous. I definitely think it is possible to live here on a budget, but I can see how easy it is to spend money. Not only is everything on average a little more expensive, but there are so many places to spend your money! Especially when just on your walk home from the subway you pass an H&M, multiple shoe stores, Best Buy, Victoria’s Secret, grocery stores, and an unnumbered amount of delicious looking restaurants and delis! Aye yi yi! Trying my best to withhold!
